Dynamic Contrast Enhanced (DCE) -MRI and 18Fluoromisonidazole (18F MISO) PET Imaging in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Initial Evaluation of Perfusion and Hypoxia in Nodal Metastasis

چکیده
The tumor microenvironment in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (HNSCC) plays a critical role in malignant tumor progression and treatment resistance. Among the microenvironment parameters that have shown to be relevant for treatment outcome are tumor cell hypoxia and proliferation. The DCE-MRI data provides insight into the tumor microenvironment (1). With proper compartmental modelling, the data may yield results on tumor-vessel permeability, and extracellular-extravascular volume fraction, i.e. data relating to the tumor microenvironment. Targeting hypoxia as a marker of outcome in HNSCC has shown its promises and challenges. The radiopharmaceuticals containing imidazole moiety such as F-misonidazole (F-MISO) has shown promise as a potential agent for hypoxia imaging (2). The present study has been designed to compare perfusion and hypoxic status of the nodal metastasis in HNSCC using Dynamic Contrast Enhanced (DCE) -MRI and Fluoromisonidazole (F MISO) PET imaging prior to treatment.

Rare case of squamous cell carcinoma of buccal mucosa metastasizing to interventricular septum in a young adult detected by 18F-FDG PET-CT
Metastatic tumors to the heart unlike primary cardiac tumors are not rare. Despite its frequency, cardiac metastasis is commonly detected only during autopsy as the symptoms of disseminated metastasis prevail over symptoms caused by cardiac metastasis and hence is overlooked most of the time. Tumors more commonly found metastasizing to the heart are malignancies of lung, breast, esophagus, lymp...

Our purpose was to analyze associations between positron emission tomography (PET), diffusion weighted imaging (DWI), and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) imaging in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The study involved 34 patients (9 women, 25 men, mean age: 56.7 ± 10.2 years). In all patients a simultaneous 18F-FDG-PET/MR was performed. DWI was obtained by using of an...

This study aimed to investigate the relationships among parameters from dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI, diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI), and F-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) PET in patients with primary head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).A total of 34 patients with primary HNSCC underwent DCE-MRI, DWI, and F-FDG PET before treatment. The perfusion parameters (Ktrans, Ktransmax, Kep, Ve...

متن کاملClinical Utility of Multimodality Imaging with Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI, Diffusion-Weighted MRI, and 18F-FDG PET/CT for the Prediction of Neck Control in Oropharyngeal or Hypopharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Treated with Chemoradiation
The clinical usefulness of pretreatment imaging techniques for predicting neck control in patients with oropharyngeal or hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OHSCC) treated with chemoradiation remains unclear. In this prospective study, we investigated the role of pretreatment dynamic contrast-enhanced perfusion MR imaging (DCE-PWI), diffusion-weighted MR imaging (DWI), and [18F]fluorodeoxyg...
